w4v43sz

What is the Trinity? Is Jesus God? What is God’s will to my life? Does water baptism essential to salvation? How do I reconcile God’s love with His justice? What does the Bible say about suicide?

These are some of the questions that puzzles people and as Christians needs to answers. So here’s a list of six resources where you can find biblical answers to those inquiries.

Just a disclaimer though. As much as these online resources provides answers, its better for a Christian to find answers for it first in prayers and searching it through the Scriptures. Also before going online, check it offline by seeking assistance to your pastor or elder.

Ask it in real time – This is a great resource I go to time and time again. Whether if it’s for my personal Bible time or just plain curious, Ask Ligonier is my go to website. With a simple tap to the chat icon, it’s as easy as chatting to a friend on FB Messenger. It’s 24 hours and 6 days a week, Ask Ligonier will help you find answers to your theological or biblical inquiries from their well equipped agents.

Listen to a podcast — With over 1,000 episodes, Ask Pastor John provides answers for theological and biblical questions. They even ask about John Piper’s hand gestures when preaching. Listeners are encourage to send their questions.

The Gospel Coalition has a new podcast that invites two council members to give answers to a given question. TGC Q & A is engaging podcast answering relevant questions.

Go to Youtube – There are a few ministries channels on Youtube that offers question and answer videos that I would like to share t o you. First stop is Grace to You, which of course is a teaching ministry of John MacArthur. They have this short and full length Q and A sessions you might want to check out. They are so kind to provide a playlist for it for you convenience.

Next is from The Gospel Coalition, which post daily videos on Facebook and Youtube. With their vast author, theologians, preachers and speakers, you’ll find a variety of view point for your questions. With a simple digging you’ll find what your looking for. But now they launch a video series One Minute Apologetics and here’s the playlist.

Another is from Southern Seminary called Honest Answers and you can access the playlist by clicking this link.

Lastly, a channel that you’ll find answers is Reformed Seminary. Since Youtube can be searched by using a hastag, #WisdomWednesday of Reformed Seminary.

Facebook has answers! Yes you can find answers here by checking the following Facebook Page:

WWUTT! (short for When We Understand the Text) which has a podcast and Youtube videos, has also a Facebook page where you can find the same content without leaving FB.

Immanuel Fellowship Church has some Q and A videos and images that answers some inquiries. You can ask questions from them too.

Download a free app – We all know the GotQuestions.org is a go to websites for us looking for biblical response to our inquiries. But did you know it has an app? Yes an app that you can read offline, loaded with tons of question and answers. When it’s installed on your phone or tablet you can take it anywhere. It’s also available in different languages.

Grab a free e-book – Let’s end this post with something from Ligonier Ministries again.  Crucial Questions by R. C. Sproul is a eBook series focusing on important questions in the Christian life. And it’s free forever! Another good news about these booklets, Ligonier Ministries keeps on adding new stuff under this series from time to time. Go to their website and create an account to download these ebooks. If you have a Kindle app, you can get the series over Amazon Kindle Store. Either ways the ebooklets are free!

How to Create an Instant Digital Christian Library Without Breaking the Bank

b9mjeub

Previously I posted on my Facebook an article from Tim Challies blog that made theology geeks everywhere shout for joy. The title of the article is “A Secret Way to Kick-Start Your Theological Library” in which he gave tips on how to create a digital library without breaking the bank. Tim listed links of free downloadable theology journals from different seminaries or organizations. He even  includes a link on how to use Evernote to save and catalog those fine resources. I already checked those journals and I can attest that they are great resources considering that they are free. So if you don’t want to buy expensive theology book, this article will give you the best alternative.

I do however have my own tips on how to create a digital library of Christian books. Like what Tim Challies gave in his article, it won’t hurt your wallet. In this way, you’re digital tablet will turn into a Christian library that will enhance you Christian walk and create a habit of reading.

But first you need to have an e-book reader. Here’s some that I recommend:

Kindle – Some tablets and phone have this app on default but you can get one for free over the Apple Store or Google Play. After downloading, create an account over Amazon. This is useful not just in opening e-books but also when you stumble upon a free ebook over Amazon (or getting a free e-book alert in your e-mail that I’ll share later) .

UB Reader – Another free app that is so versatile because it reads almost all digital format of a book.

Moon Reader – Basically it’s like the UB Reader and  but if you go for the paid one, its a totally different story. I highly recommend you get the its premium app.

Now to dig to some free books….

Desiring God– This website has almost all John Piper’s book for free download. I recommend you download Don’t Waste Your Life, Spectacular Sins, Five Points and Finally Alive.  Aside from books written by John Piper, there are books by Tony Reinke, Jon Bloom and David Mathis that are worth reading.

The Gospel CoalitionSome basic Christian doctrines are featured here. Books that are author by Kevin DeYoung, Tim Keller and others that guarantees that it will be an awesome read.

C. Sproul’s “Crucial Questions Series” – These booklets are free forever and it’s from R. C. Sproul. Nuff said! Come back for often because they add new booklets in the series.

Also if you sign for Ligonier Ministries e-mail update, they might have a free e-book offer (scroll down below to find the e-mail upate box). Don’t forget to create a free account so you can save the free ebook (or audio or video offer) on their site for later enjoyment.

D. A. Carson – A theologian and an prolific author, Carson generously has a couple of free books uploaded in the internet. Haven’t read all of the books in the list but Memoirs of an Ordinary Pastor is a great read.

Mongerism – Now if you’re into classic stuff from authors, preachers or theologians, get your fix here. Features A. W. Pink, J. C. Ryle, Martin Luther, John Calvin and some unfamiliar but great personalities that are waiting for you to discover. And you’ll be the first to know their latest e-books by subscribing to their e-mail alerts.

Log College Press If past American Presbyterian works are your thing, go to their website and dive in to old but great books. I have interviewed LCP here on my blog and they listed some must read free books. They also sell books in digital and physical format.

Wany more free reformed e-books? Click on this link for other links.

Try free e-mail subscriptions…

E-mail accounts exist not to just to log you on your favorite social media accounts, but to receive e-mails (duh!?). Make use of it by subscribing to these e-mail list. Be warned though that you should be cautious to some of the free books they post (specially Gospel E-Books) . Dont forget to put on your discernment caps on.

Cross-Points – Just by signing up, you’ll receive a massive list of free e-books. Plus you’ll receive some free, great deals and discounte e-book alerts.

Crossway – From time to time, Crossway gives away free e-books on special events or through surveys. Sign up to their e-mail updates and enjoy their stuff.

David C. Cook – This big publishing company caters to books of Warren Weirsbe and John MacArthur. As much as they give out other books, those author I mentioned are worth it to sign up because DCC occasionally gives their ebooks for free.

10 of Those – This UK based publishing company gives away free e-book weekly once you sign up to their mailing list.

The Good Book Company – This book company has a “Free Book of the Month” worth checking out.

Gospel E-Books – Excellent site for daily discounted e-books. Sometimes they include freebies.

Faithlife – Like The Good Book Company, they have a free e-book of the month that you might want to try.

Other ways to get free e-books…

Sign up for a book blogging program- If you’re a blogger or have accounts on Amazon or Goodreads, why not sign up for a blogging program? Publishers do need promotions from bloggers that’s why they will give away free e-books (or sometimes physical books) in exchange for a review of their available titles. One good example of this is from Crossway books.

Another is Tulip Publishing. It’s a small non-profit publishing that is commited to Reformed theology. You can enroll or find additional information by clicking here.

Join a book launching team – Your favorite author sometimes need a helping hand in launching his book. So keep your eyes peeled on Twitter or Facebook on his or her latest post. I suggest you follow up and coming authors. What so neat about this is that you can get to read in advance the book and have a digital copy first.

Now for some shameless plug…drum roll please!!!

Follow my blog of course specifically the Freebie Round-Up because sometimes it has free e-books for your digital library.

I hope you like this post. If you benefited on this post, why not share your story by commenting below.

8 Cool Ways to Encourage Reading a Book

Is there someone you know that is indifferent on reading books? Do you want to unleash within him the bookworm he ought to be? Here is a list of ideas to encourage a friend to sit and read a book:

  1. Give someone a book – This one is a no brainer. Nothing can be more encouraging than giving a book as a gift to a non-reading friend.
  2. Give DVDs of book-adapted movies – Then say something like “The Chronicles of Narnia movies are adapted from C. S. Lewis books. I think some parts of the movie are slightly changed and some details are dropped. If you read the book it will fill those parts and more.”
  3. Give them different format of the book – They might have an I-Pad so give them e-books of that book. Audio books in MP3 is great too specially when they are driving to work or at the gym.
  4. Show someone websites that have free books – Maybe your friend is not into reading because he doesn’t have a budget to buy a book and too shy to borrow. There are gazillions of websites that offers e-books in different format and different genre. Some publishers on their websites give away fresh new titles in digital formats just by entering your e-mail address.
  5. Point out heroes of your friend and their favorite books – You can tell them their favorite celebrities, sports personalities and political figures read these kinds of books and shaped them who they are today. That will thrill them to consider picking up that book.
  6. Show them some books inspired social media – Goodreads, Scribd, and Issuu are awesome. Give them links over their site, encourage them to make an online shelf and even put an app on their favorite social media profile. Make them click on “Want to Read” buttons and encourage them to read the actual stuff.
  7. Show things that you have made out of reading books – Let them taste that Korean food you learned from a cookbook. Give them a sample of stunning photographs snag from a How-To photography book. Show your nifty room damped with some interior design you copied to an interior designing magazine. This way they won’t just be encouraged to read the book but find its usefulness in their life.
  8. Place them in a teaching ministry – whether a Bible Study group or Kid’s ministry they will be force to read materials they will teach. Not only will it enhance someone’s spiritual gift but create an appetite to appreciate the joy of reading.
