A Call for Contagious Praising (Part 5)

How to Contagiously Praise God?

3.) Boast in God only.

In our last point we shall see how boasting in God sustains our praising continuously.

“My soul makes its boast in the LORD; let the humble hear and be glad.” Psalms 34: 2

As we carry our flowers of praise, let us lay in on the feet of our God and no one else. This is also the exhortation of Psalms 44: 8:

“ In God we have boasted continually, and we will give thanks to your name forever. Selah”

So the question is: why boast in God alone? Here are the answers:

  • Because human boasting is unacceptable to God. God abhors any form of human exaltation that dethrones God as the ultimate Sustainer of all. It’s the ugliest picture man can bring out.

“For the wicked boasts of the desires of his soul, and the one greedy for gain curses and renounces the LORD.” Psalms 10:3

  • Because human boasting requires us to keep up on what we are boasting. Another ugly portrait that man can bring out is that we are our own sustainer of our boasting. We might feel that we are on top of the world and we want to keep it that way. We feel untouchable and the need for a God is unnecessary. The problem with that is that we are finite beings unable to go on forever. Our riches, fame and honor which we boast will soon fade away. This creates a vicious cycle to hold on top on what we boast. However if we look onto God and exalt Him, we are clinging to something that is eternal and in due time will recognize us as we boast on God.

“so that, as it is written, “Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord.” 1 Corinthians 1:27

“ Thus says the Lord: “Let not the wise man boast in his wisdom, let not the mighty man boast in his might, let not the rich man boast in his riches, but let him who boasts boast in this, that he understands and knows me, that I am the Lord who practices steadfast love, justice, and righteousness in the earth. For in these things I delight, declares the Lord.”—Jeremiah 9: 22

As we conclude this lesson, let us meditate on the passages that will extol God and lead others to praise Him too:

“Through him then let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that acknowledge his name.” Hebrews 13: 15

“Rooted and based together in him, strong in the faith which the teaching gave you, giving praise to God at all times.”—Colossians 2:7  (Bible in Basic English)
