7 Unforgettable Mountains Mentioned in the Bible

Standard

Mountains have a significant place the Bible. Major biblical events took place in this place. So I gather the 7 most prominent and gave some brief info:

  1. Ararat (Genesis 8:4) – after the global flood, the ark of Noah rested here till the waters subdued and after that everyone in the ark came out and propagate.
  2. Moriah (Genesis 22:2) – this is the place Abraham offered Isaac. Eventually in the reign of King Solomon, his temple for God was built over there (2 Chronicles 3:1).
  3. Sinai (Number 3:10)-this is where God gave the 10 Commandments (Exodus 20) to Moses.
  4. Carmel- this mountain had a showdown between Elijah (the prophet of God) versus Baal’s prophets (1 Kings 18: 17-46).
  5. Mount of Beatitudes- (Matthew 5:1) scholars’ points out this place is located within the vicinity of Capernaum where greatest sermon ever delivered by Christ Himself.
  6. Calvary- Golgotha or the place of skull, this mountain (technically it’s a hill like the Mount of Beatitudes) this is where our Lord and Savior was nail to the cross and died for God and our sins (Mark 15:22).
  7. Mount of Olive or Olivet- lots of evens in Jesus earthly ministry occurred here. Most notable events is on this place Jesus ascended back to heaven (Acts 1:12).

Anymore you might wish to add? Please mention it at the comments.

  1. Thank you deightinggrace, caused me a memory search , what about when Jesus was transfigured, it was said that they went up to a high mountain , it`s been thought that it was Mt Hermon. Each of the other ones as you say had a significant importance too.

  2. Hi Nitoy, I believe there was another important Mountain that is also mentioned in the Bible it was in the Scripture I was reading today which reminded me about the time Jesus was tempted by the Devil.

Luke 4 : 5 And the Devil, taking Him up into an high mountain, shewed unto Him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time.

    Christian Love Anne.

  3. A cool insight into Mt. Moriah is that’s the same place Abraham payed a tithe to King Melchezidek. The city was then named Salem (Peace), Abraham renamed it Uriah (God will provide) after God provided a ram in place of Isaac. Later, David renamed the city by combining the two names, as to not offend Abraham or Melchezidek (who many believe was Shem, Noah’s righteous son). By combining the two names David came up with Yerushaliyim, or as we know it, Jerusalem. So Jerusalem is thought to literally mean ‘God will provide peace’. It lines up with prophecy when Micah 4:1-8 says God will bring peace to the world from His Holy City and His Law will go forth from Zion.

  4. Zion – gotta mention Mount Zion. Paul makes clear that all who are born of the free woman, who belong to the New Jerusalem, we all have our identity and home in Zion. OK – it’s not really a mountain, but still …. 🙂

  5. Write more, thats all I have to say. Literally, it seems as though you relied on the video
to make your point. You definitely know what youre talking about, why throw
away your intelligence on just posting videos to
your site when you could be giving us something enlightening to read?

  6. Mount Tabor is the mount of Transfiguration of Our Lord and the Mount of Temptation (or at least that’s what it is called today) is the site of Our Lord’s temptation. Mountains were relavent in biblical times, as that is where you encountered Yahweh. God bless you all.

  7. Beautiful, Thanks Levon for the insights on Moriah. I always have my eschatological detector switched on when i am studying the bible. There is another important Mountain perhaps the last one we find in the bible Armageddon which comes from “har megiddōn” which means the mountain of Megiddon. Herein God shall destroy evil and sin will not reign anymore. Thanks Nitoy

  8. May I add mount HOR Exodus c 20 v 28.

This is where Moses stripped Aaron of his garments, and put them on Eleazar his son. Aarons mount of death. This mountain is a warning to any ministers that if they change Gods word to please the people that, that man will lose his ministership.(the golden calf incidence) Death mean spiritually losing the ability to understand God will and way. A corrupt minister in the sight of God.

    Apostle David
